Un-paper Towels

Happy Hump Day! With Earth Day the other day and in trying to go more Eco Friendly at home, we decided to give up paper towels. Well let me be honest. I still have paper towels in my house because there are just some things that I can not find an alternative…like sticking one in with the lettuce to keep it from wilting. However, for the most part, towels can get the job done.

I decided to get some bar towels. They are inexpensive and easy to throw into the washer. I also grabbed a basket that we were not using for the dirty towels. We tend to throw used towels/napkins in a pile on the floor in my kitchen (please don’t judge) until the end of the day. I thought this just wouldn’t do for things like cleaning up after raw chicken, so keeping the dirty towels in the basket is helpful (and looks nicer).  Making this switch was pretty seamless and it was an inexpensive change.

I am not perfect by any means but, I do try to do what I can to help preserve the Earth. Lets me honest, there are days that I grab a paper towel because it easier, forget my reusable bags at the grocery store, or throw the junk mail in the trash can. The most important thing is to keep working hard and doing your best to take care of environment. I want to be a part of the solution and not a part of the problem…little changes make a big difference.

Here are a few alternatives to the towel idea. If you wanted to make your own paper towels here is a great tutorial or you can buy them on Etsy.

Do you use paper towels? What Eco Friendly changes have you made in kitchen?
