Oh Monday, you get a bad wrap! I thought I would shake things up as we start this new week and list some things that make me happy. For some time now, I have ended each day with what makes me smile. I always pick three things from the day and sometimes I take the time to write them down and other times….well I just don’t. Ending each day with positive thoughts brings light to my day and gives me a positive outlook for the next day.
Being a happy, positive person is a choice that can be made each day and does not depend on anything other than yourself.
The truth is that happiness is not circumstantial. And this is really good news. It means we don’t have to wait for everything to be perfect, nor do we have to control anything outside of ourselves in order to feel a certain way. Becoming aware of this truth is a total game-changer, because it means we can choose happiness in this moment. And something beautiful happens when we do this: When we feel happy first, our outward experience begins to shift in ways we’d only dreamed of. – greatist.com
Taking the time to intentionally be happy takes practice and work but, truly worth it in the end. Being happy is nothing more than feeling good and being satisfied. It really doesn’t matter why you feel that way. Once you let go of trying to control things and any negativity its much easier to be happy.
I think there are things that help evoke the happiness inside. Maybe its the smell of chocolate chip cookies that reminds you of your grandma or the sunsets over the ocean because they remind you of wonderful times spent on the West Coast. Here are a few things that contribute to my happiness. (photos- snapshots of wonderful memories….now that makes me happy!)
- Adventures with my Kids– this has always been one of my favorite things to do! Whether it is raining and we need umbrellas to hike trails, water is frozen solid or a simple walk around the block, we have so much fun spending time outside together. My children and I go on a walk together almost every day. I cherish this special time without any interruptions.
2. A Good Book– I am a sucker for a good book, I look forward to reading at night when the house is quiet. I cherish this time at the end of the day and it helps bring a sense a calm which is needed after all of the daily adventures (see #1).
3. Water– I am an Aquarius and for as long as I can remember, I have been drawn to water. I love the calming effect that it has on me. It could be an ocean, lake, river, pool- I love them all! I have so many great memories associated with trips to the sea, boat rides and swimming with family at the pool. This is my “happy place”
4. Acts of Kindness– Small thoughts and gestures can make someone’s day! We all get so caught up in our own lives that sometimes we forget to take a moment and think of others. There are so many great ways that you can put a smile on someones face and these acts of kindness not only make that person happy but the giver as well.
