When I was in high school my grandmother had a roll top desk that I adored. When I became a Freshman in High School, she decided to let me have it and I was ecstatic. Just one week after receiving this wonderful gift, there was a tragic fire and her house burnt to the ground. To this day, that roll top desk is one of my prized possessions. It has completed many military moves with us and held together with minimal damage- despite its age. One of my favorite things about the desk is when you open the drawers there are old stickers and writing on the outside but, you would never know just looking at it. The secret stickers and markings always fascinated me so, I decided one rainy day that my boys and I would make our own little hidden masterpiece on a piece of our furniture.
I decided we would use our kitchen table for the project. This is where we have gathered together to play Play-Doh, paint and it too has moved around with me since I was in my early twenties. Oh- and its a hammy down piece from my cousin!
The boys had so much fun creating this hidden gem. We added some hand prints, the date and signatures to finish it off. They loved doing this and it is now our own little secret! I catch them peeking under the table during meal times to make sure its still there. It was so fun doing this together and I hope my boys not only get to see their masterpiece but remember the laughs that we had completing it.

I let my boys be creative within the area under the table that would not be seen. Try this secret art project with your family. You can choose a table, headboard or even the back of a draw like my grandmother did.
